There are 3 different types of skills and techniques there
are 1. physical 2. psychological 3.Technical and we will look at these 3 in two
different activities which are mountain biking and go ape.
Mountain biking
For mountain biking
the physical demands you need to have to participate in this are things like
muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance you need these two because with
mountain biking you will be going at a high intensity for a long duration so to
complete the activity you will need to have these two. You will also need some
of the components of fitness like strength, power, balance, flexibility and you
will need these when you are going around corners, you need to have strength to
hold the handle bars and turn at speed, you need flexibility to be able to bend
your back to hold the handle bars and steer and you will need balance to make
sure when you are going round corners that you keep the bike stead and up
right. Next are the psychological requirements and this could be things like
confidence and you need confidence when biking because you will be going a high
speeds and over a rough terrain so having confidence will make you not fear
what could happen but let you do the course at speed as you will think you can
do it. Motivation when mountain biking is crucial because it will be up and
down hills which will be tiring for the body and the brain so by being
motivated then you will keep on going on the course even if your body is tiring
as you will want to accomplish that sense of achievement that comes with
finishing the course. Next are the technical factors involved and these are
things like the gear changes you make they need to be good and at the right
time, because if you change up when going up a hill instead of down it will
make it harder for you to get up the hill. You will also need to be good at
cornering and having fast reactions because mountain biking is an off course
route you will have to turn to avoid hitting and crashing into things and so
you will need to quick reactions to miss the obstacles.
Go ape
For go ape the
physical demands that come with this are things like strength, balance and
co-ordination because up in the trees out will be holding on to thins and
hanging of them so having that strengths will mean ha out can hold onto them
and stay up right. You need the balance because on some of the course there are
obstacles such as the rope crossing which requires you to hold onto a rope and
walk on the other below so this is why you need to have balance and
co-ordination. The psychological demands that are needed could be confidence,
motivation and will power because being up in the trees at sometimes heights of
60ft and walking o wooden bridges and ropes can be scary so you need to have
the will power to take on the challenge and you need the motivation to then
accomplish the activity. But confidence will be the most important thing
because you need to have confidence within yourself to do the activity; you
need confidence in the instructor because you will hope they have shown you
right and you need confidence in the equipment as this is what keeps you safe.
The technical factors that you need are things like strength, agility,
co-ordination and balance and you need these because in the activity you will
need strengths to hold onto he things that help you like the zip line you hold
the rope, you need co-ordination and balance to keep you progressing around the
course in the way that you are walking on things that aren't sturdy and that
will move so you need to have these attributes to conquer the course.
