Conservation

The Country Code, The Countryside Code and The Scottish Outdoor Access Code are sets of rules for visitors to rural, and especially agricultural, regions of the United Kingdom. The Country Code dates back to the 1930s; the Countryside Code replaced it in 2004.

In 2004 The Country Code was revised and re-launched as The Countryside Code  to reflect the introduction of new open access rights and changes in society over the preceding years. The revised Code was produced through a partnership between the Countryside Agency and the Countryside Council for Wales:

·         Be safe - plan ahead and follow any signs

·         Leave gates and property as you find them

·         Protect plants and animals, and take your litter home

·         Keep dogs under close control

·         Consider other people

The Countryside Code applies to all parts of the countryside. Most of it is just good common sense, designed to help us all to respect, protect and enjoy our countryside.

The Code, which applies in England and Wales, makes it clear what the responsibilities are for both the public and the people who manage the land.

Environmental considerations

Take your litter home- All litter is unsightly. Glass, tins and plastic bags can be dangerous to people, livestock and wildlife. Keep the countryside clean by taking home your own litter and any which you may come across.

Keep to paths across farmland- Help prevent damage to crops by walking around the edge of a field unless there is an existing path across it. Avoid fields where there are animals, as your presence may cause them stress and endanger your own safety.

Toilets- Are they accessible and how are they used. Need to respect them because other people will use them

Noise- Need to be respectful to people and animals. Noise may disturb them and cause stress

Pollution- need to make sure that we don’t cause too much pollution. Instead of everyone going up to cars we could go in one car.

River- need to cross it at a suitable place. If we cross it at any place we might trample on a fish or frog

Stonewalls- Need to make sure we don’t go over them because if people continually go over them the stone would just disappear

Close gates- Need to close gates to make sure animals don’t escape or go into other farms where other animals are

Fauna- When you are out in the countryside and walking across farmland, you have to be care and make sure you don’t disturb birds. Disturbing the birds could cause them stress, which can cause the birds to move away from their habitat birds sometimes have their nests on the ground so you need to be aware of your surroundings.

Flora- Need to make sure you stay on the path, if you don’t stay on the path then you could damage the flowers and environment without even meaning to
